Cooking Tip: Black pepper is an important ingredient here, as it improves the absorption of the curcumin into the bloodstream; therefore, improves the health benefit of the turmeric. Curcumin is the main active ingredient in turmeric that has powerful anti-inflammatory effects and is a very strong antioxidant.

Ingredients:

  • 4 Tbsp turmeric powder

  • 2 Tbsp ginger powder

  • 1 Tbsp cinnamon

  • 1 Tsp black pepper

  • 1 Tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

Directions:

  1. Mix all ingredients together and store in a spice container

  2. Add ¼ - ½ Tsp of spice mix to your cup of coffee.

Recipe Inspiration:

I have no recollection of how this recipe came about. There are many similar ones on the internet, so the idea is definitely not original.

Back Story:

This spice mix is my alternative to sugar in the coffee. Years ago, I came across turmeric roots as a main ingredient in a drink that supposed to boost immune system. Since then, I read many health benefits of turmeric. In the past few years, Golden Latte became a popular menu item in the coffee shops. With my girls taking all kinds of superbugs back from daycare, my immune system needs all the help it can get. After drinking my homemade Golden Coffee for the past couple of years, I still get a fair share of colds and flus. Maybe it would have been worse without it. Regardless, the taste really grew on me. Sugar in the coffee taste kind of strange.
